No Rain In The Brain

Recently a friend and I were chatting by cell-phone. Our topic of discussion was the new product from IMPaX World, Inc. known as delta-E™. “There’s such a difference between taking something that can strengthen brain function as compared to a stimulant that simply binds to receptor molecules in the brain and makes you think you have more energy,” I told him, “but which eventually can put you in deficit.”

As we talked about the advantages of this new and revolutionary nutritional product, he said, “Oh, I get it. No rain in my brain!” We laughed—and his comment stuck in my brain.

Our conversation reminded me of college days when some of my classmates were in the habit of taking several NoDoz tablets before exams, especially when they had stayed up studying late into the night. Yes they were “awake,” and I don’t know what type of grades they earned, but typically they would crash at the end of test week. In addition to being exhausted, many of them also would come down with a cold or other illness that would negatively impact their school break.

Over the years I’ve observed many people taking a variety of stimulants in an effort to help them keep going or to enhance their alertness for a specific project. I understand their motivation—keeping the brain working optimally is not only desirable but also critical, especially as it ages and gradually loses energy. Unfortunately, stimulants often suppress Theta and Alpha brain waves while promoting Beta Waves. According to some sources, this can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and depressed immune system function.

Green tea, delta-E™ and YOU!

Enter L-Theanine, a unique non-protein amino acid that is found primarily in green tea leaves, albeit in very small amounts. It has been shown in animal studies to cross the blood brain barrier and is involved in the formation of an inhibitory neurotransmitter (brain chemical) known as gamma amino butyric acid. With a name like that no wonder most people refer to it as GABA for short.

GABA influences the levels of two other neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine is known as the “feel-good chemical.” Serotonin, on the other hand, is a brain substance that must be present in sufficient amounts for the brain to experience joy. At this point in our discussion my friend said, “Oh, no more rain in the brain!” Maybe not exactly in every particular, but it was a cute phrase, and I decided it would make a great title!

The problem has been that L-Theanine makes up only 1%-2% of the dry weight of green-tea leaves. In the past that would have meant drinking a lot of green tea if your goal was to strengthen brain function with this ingredient. It also meant risking the type of side-effects that often accompany an over-consumption of caffeine.

Working with scientists and specialists around the world, Greg and Brenda Im appear to have solved that problem. A unique extraction process has been developed. Since L-Theanine requires a caffeine co-factor (if you will), the synergistic formula contains only 75 mg of specially prepared caffeine (about the amount usually found in ½ cup of regular coffee) that has had the undesirable side-effects reduced.

L-Theanine in delta-E™ is quite a player. Studies have shown that it may:
  • Improve learning ability and memory
  • Stimulate the production of alpha brain waves, which can increase mental focus, improve concentration, and promote creativity
  • Reduce stress and anxiety without inducing drowsiness, which is good for the immune system as well as the brain
  • Increase dopamine levels, which can reduce blood pressure temporarily and may help the brain experience a sense of well being
  • Boost the body’s defenses against infections by different pathogenic organisms (e.g., antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli)
  • Exert protective effects on the brain by antagonizing glutamate toxicity
  • Stimulate the release of nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein that increases growth of dendrites and is needed by cholinergic brain cells that use acetylcholine for signaling
  • Help to reduce negative side effects occasioned from over-consumption of caffeine-containing substances
  • Assist in relieving nicotine dependency
  • Activate the fifth taste sense in your tongue (umani in Japanese—deliciousness or brothiness) and do what MSG or monosodium glutamate purports without its neurotoxic effects

Supporting Your Immune System and Brain Function

EnerPrimeGenerally what supports the immune system also supports brain function, and what supports brain function also supports the immune system. For years I’ve taken EnerPrime™ with its green superfoods and salad of micronutrients to help strengthen my immune system—and brain.

delta-ENow I’ve added delta-E™ to help strengthen my brain—and immune system. They are helping me move toward my goal of living to be 120 years of age with good mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual function.

You cannot know how L-Theanine may strengthen your brain and immune system until you try it. From my perspective there is every reason to expect a positive outcome.

And in a play on my friend’s words, the “green stuff” plus the “pink stuff” equals no rain in my brain…

Green + Pink = No Rain In The Brain!
